Panda gave birth to a baby in Washington Zoo

In the Washington Zoo, happy addition. A giant panda named Mei Xian 22 August gave birth to a cub, which is considered the third of its kind.

A small miracle came to life thanks to artificial insemination - for this, experts used frozen male sperm named Hue-Hue from a Chinese zoo and male Tien-Tian from a zoo in Washington.

The very process of childbirth captured two cameras installed in the panda aviary. According to the workers of the zoo, the calf was born before the due time. It was expected that Mei Xiang will give birth early next week or early September.

Scientists began to guess the pregnancy of the panda on several grounds - in particular, it was noticed that the panda began to spend more time in the den and make a special rookery there, began to sleep more and eat less, and also began to rock the toys that the zoologists gave her.

Previously, Mei Xian had already become a mother twice: she gave birth to one cub in 2005 and 2013.

According to zoo workers, the cub will be valuable in terms of the genetic diversity of pandas, which is important for the conservation of this species.

The big panda is an endangered species, characterized by a constantly decreasing population size and low birth rate, both in the wild and in captivity.

Scientists suggest that there are about 1500 individuals in the wild.
