Islamic State claims responsibility for Texas shooting
The terrorist group Islamic State announced on Tuesday, May 5, that it had launched its first strike on US soil. She claimed responsibility for a shooting in Texas at an exhibition of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad over the weekend.
“Two Caliphate soldiers attacked an exhibition in Garland, Texas, where cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad were on display,” the jihadist group said.
“We tell America: worse and more bitter things await you, you will see the soldiers of the Islamic State do terrible things,” the group threatened.
This is the first time the Islamic State group claims to have carried out an attack in the United States.
Police said two men arrived at the convention center in Garland, Texas, and opened fire on a guard. Police officers returned fire and killed two militants
According to US media reports, the two killed were jihadists: 31-year-old Elton Simpson, and 34-year-old Nadir Sufi, who rented an apartment in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Twitter account Sharia Light reportedly used the hashtag #texasattack before the attack took place in Texas, Vocativ reported.
After the attack, one user wrote: "They thought they were safe in Texas from the Islamic State soldiers."
