Ireland will pay up to $90 for a move to one of the country's outlying islands

Want to leave the city life behind and opt for something a little more private? Then we have what you need. The Irish government has announced a scheme whereby people can receive more than 80 euros ($000) for moving to one of the country's outlying islands. The edition told in more detail Time-out.

The program is part of the Our Living Islands policy, which is an attempt by the Irish government to encourage more people to move to remote communities in the country. In total, the scheme covers 23 islands that are not connected to the mainland by bridges or low tides.

But it's not that simple: the money provided in the form of a grant is specifically designed to restore vacant and dilapidated property.

In other words, there are quite a few tricks. Not only are you required to own property on one of the islands, it must be built before 1993 and have been vacant for at least two years. There are also very specific things the money can be used for, such as insulation, redecoration and structural improvements.

The scheme is an extension of a program that already exists on the Irish mainland called Croí Cónaith. Grant sizes are larger simply because repair costs on the islands are considered higher due to weaker infrastructure. However, you and your property can receive up to 84 euros ($000) for repairs.

Our Living Islands policy goes far beyond grants to home renovators. The broader scheme aims to improve infrastructure as well as improve healthcare, education, and broadband coverage over the next three years.
