Nevada Governor declares state of emergency due to lack of marijuana

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval has called for a state of emergency as the state's specialty pharmacies are running out of marijuana, just a week after it was legalized in the region.

Nevada State Tax Commission 13 July will decide whether to introduce an emergency provision that will allow the state to issue more licenses for the distribution and supply of marijuana and cover the deficit of “herbs” in pharmacies, writes New York Post.

Currently, 47 licensed marijuana retail stores operate on the state, sales of which have exceeded expectations and forecasts, so they are running out of marijuana.

Some of them will need to be replenished in the next few days, or they will have to completely cease operations due to the lack of goods. This will lead to loss of jobs and a slowdown in the state economy, which in turn will affect almost all sectors of the economic and social life of Nevada.

The introduction of new rules may exacerbate the legal confrontation between Nevada and representatives of the state alcoholic beverage industry, who have already filed a lawsuit demanding the right to sell marijuana.

The state tax service claims that most alcohol traffickers who have applied for the distribution of cannabis have not yet fulfilled the requirements for obtaining a license to sell marijuana.

Sales of legal cannabis began in Nevada on July 1 2017. For the first few days of sales, state residents purchased “herbs” for $ 3 million. Persons over the age of 21 have the right to purchase legal marijuana. For purchase, you must present an ID. In this case, drug use is allowed only in private homes. Smoking marijuana in public places, including hotels and casinos, incurs a $ 600 fine.
