The form of voter registration in New York is now available in Russian.
New York Mayor Bill de Blazio announced the launch of voter registration forms in five new languages: Russian, Urdu, Haitian Creole, French and Arabic, as part of a program to expand access to the electoral process.
This is reported on official city site.
“No one should be denied civil rights because of language. Voter registration forms in five new languages will help us get more New Yorkers to vote. New York is a city of immigrants and these forms will help every New Yorker cast your vote on Election Day,” De Blasio said.
“New York is the most diverse city in America, with more than 200 languages spoken. With this decision, the de Blasio Administration has guaranteed access to voter registration forms for the 80% of New York City's LEP residents eligible to vote in New York City, and we will continue to work toward that goal in 2016,” said the Commissioner of Immigrant Affairs. New York Nisha Agarwal.
The city will further expand the number of languages for voter registration of the city.
