Trump's ex-counselor is ready to pass to the sentencing stage for giving false testimony

Former National Security Advisor to US President Donald Trump, Mike Flynn, is ready to move to the sentencing stage, his attorney Robert Kelner told the judge on Tuesday. Flynn appeared in court for the first time since December, when he pleaded guilty to giving false testimony from the FBI about his contacts with the Russian ambassador to the United States.

Judging by Kelner’s comments, Flynn continues to cooperate with an investigation into possible collusion between Trump’s campaign headquarters and Russia, led by Special Prosecutor Muller, and the materials provided by Flynn’s lawyers did not change the essence of the matter, reports Voice of America.

“General Flynn is ready to move to the sentencing stage,” Kelner told Judge Emmett Sullivan, who is considering the case in Washington’s federal district court.

Kelner also added that Flynn could agree to reduce the usual gap between the end of his cooperation with prosecutors and the sentencing hearing, since the facts underlying his pre-trial agreement with the prosecution have not changed. Sullivan expressed readiness to hold a hearing on the verdict two months after the end of Flynn’s cooperation with the investigation instead of the days put on 90. Both the prosecution and the defense said they welcomed the acceleration of the process.

Komi's records were edited and sent to Congress by the Ministry of Justice on Thursday evening, and then received by some news organizations. The notes state that Trump is seriously concerned about the Flynn trial.

The former national security adviser was dismissed from his post for deceiving Vice President Mike Pence and other administration officials about the details of his conversation with the Russian ambassador. Flynn pleaded guilty to having lied to the FBI about the conversations he had with the Russian ambassador, and is now working with investigators who, after the dismissal of James Komi, are leading a Russian intervention case.

In one of his memos written after his conversation with Trump 30 in March 2017, Komi wrote that Trump told him that "he is trying to lead the country, but the cloud of this Russian affair makes it difficult." Trump fired Komi in May 2017, when the head of the FBI conducted an investigation into allegations of Russia's interference in the presidential election and possible collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians.
