Two Russians, in protest, tore down the American flag at the Latvian military base

Thus, the Friends of Russia expressed a protest against the implementation of the plan to create permanent NATO bases in the Baltic States and the deployment of missiles aimed at Russia in Europe.

According to Latvian Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis, the Russians entered Latvian territory through the Schengen zone without crossing the Russian-Latvian border. He is sure that this was a planned event for the purpose of provocation during the NATO exercise Saber Strike 2015 taking place here.

Defense Minister Raymond Veyonis, who will become the new President of Latvia after the inauguration of July 2015, called the incident at the Adazi military base "an integral part of the hybrid war" and an attempt to slander the country and its armed forces.

The ministry did not specify under which article the case was initiated, stating that this concerns the section of the Latvian Criminal Law on crimes against the state.

Both detainees, citizens of Russia, are detained. In this status, according to the law, they can be left under arrest for 48 hours. If they are brought in as suspects, after the expiration of their detention, another preventive measure can be applied to them, including arrest.
