Thought there was water: a poisonous spider was removed from the ear of a Missouri resident

Missouri resident Susie Torres went to the doctor with complaints of water getting into her left ear - it seemed to the woman that liquid was splashing there. “Water” turned out to be a creature with eight legs, pincers and the ability to poisonous bites.

Doctors in Kansas City, Missouri, pulled a poisonous brown hermit spider from Torres ear. In the process of manipulation, the woman surprisingly remained calm, but she no longer sleeps without an ear plug, writes CNN.

Torres woke up on Wednesday morning with the feeling that something was popping and splashing in her ear. At first, she did not attach any importance to this, but after working, she decided to go to a specialist.

The paramedic examined the woman’s ear and went out to call other doctors. Soon he was joined by a doctor, two nurses and three medical college students. They told Torres bad news: someone had settled in her ear canal.

It is noteworthy that the woman remained calm, even knowing that an insect was sitting in her head, she admitted herself.

“But when I saw the instruments they were going to put in my ear, I started to panic,” she said.

The doctor washed her ear with water, but the insect did not budge. And then a real panic began.

After several attempts, the doctor pulled out the whole spider and laid it on the table. It turned out that the "invader" of the ear was a brown recluse spider - a nocturnal spider that can inject victims with a poisonous liquid if it bites.

According to the doctors, it is surprising that the spider has been in her ear canal for so long and has never bitten her.

A woman thinks that an insect crept into her ear when she was sleeping. Therefore, now Torres does not take risks and always uses ear plugs.

True to their name, brown recluse spiders hide in dark corners—under logs and rocks. When they make their way inside, they typically make their homes in closets, attics and, worst of all, shoes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

These spiders are common in the Midwestern United States and bite only if they are pressed to the skin of their victim. They inject necrotic poison, which kills blood cells and, in severe cases, can cause loss of limb. In 2018, a woman from Arkansas had her leg amputated after being bitten by a hermit spider.

A bite from such a spider is rarely fatal, but it is better to seek help immediately. The dark central area of ​​the rash that surrounds the bite is where the tissue has died. Doctors can stop this process with antibiotics.
