Chrysler is obliged to pay 150 million dollars for the death of a child
A jury in the US state of Georgia ordered the Chrysler automaker to pay the family of 4-year-old boy Rammington Weldon, burned in the Grand Cherokee, 150 million dollars.
According to the jury’s verdict, the company at 99 percent is guilty of the death of the child. Representatives of Chrysler intend to appeal the decision of the court.
Three years ago, the 1999 SUV of the year, driven by Rammington’s aunt Emily Newsome, crashed a pickup truck driving behind it. The gas tank attached to the rear axle exploded from the impact. As a result, the boy in the back seat died.
Two years ago, Chrysler withdrew models with a similar placement of the gas tank. According to official data, more than 75 people died in the country as a result of fires in accidents involving these machines.
