Americans may require visas to travel to Europe
The European Union is considering the introduction of visas for citizens of the United States and Canada. According to European officials, this is due to the fact that citizens of some European countries still need a visa to travel to North America.
Visas to the USA are required for residents of Poland, Croatia, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Romania, and for Canada only for Romanians and Bulgarians.
According to the American authorities, these countries do not yet fully comply with the current Visa Waiver Program.
“We are in open dialogue with each of these countries on the program requirements and are monitoring how all five countries are progressing on this issue,” CNN quoted a US State Department spokesman as saying.
European Commissioner Mina Andreeva called the priority for the European authorities to provide full visa-free regime on the part of the United States and Canada.
The European Commission will discuss the introduction of a return visa regime next week. If the decision is made, it will take effect in 4 of the month.
However, US citizens, reportedly, will still be able to visit the UK and Ireland, which do not have a standard EU visa policy and, accordingly, do not require Schengen visas.
At the moment, citizens of 38 countries of the world, including 23 of a member of the European Union, can come to the USA without visas.
