Lawyer Harvey Weinstein refused to defend him

Harvey Weinstein’s lawyer, Benjamin Bruffman, no longer wants to represent his client’s interests in court. This January 14 reported television channel NBC News, citing the source.

In order to recuse himself, Brafman will need permission from the judge. Sources said that the lawyer had not yet filed the necessary documents about the withdrawal and had not notified Vainshtein himself of this, but he does not intend to represent him in court any longer, writes Rtvi.

According to the TV channel, disagreements have recently arisen between a client and a lawyer. Weinstein’s spokeswoman Judah Engelmayer declined to comment on Brafman’s rejection.

Due to rejection, the trial of Weinstein, who is accused of harassment, can be rescheduled. The next preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 7.

The fact that Weinstein had been harassing women with whom he had professional relationships for several decades became known in the autumn of 2017. Then the newspaper New York Times and the magazine New Yorker issued an investigation with the stories of the victims of the producer. More than a hundred women, including actresses Salma Hayek, Asia Argento and Ashley Judd, accused him of harassment.

In November 2018, Weinstein was accused of harassment of a minor. According to the woman, in 2002, when she was 16 years old, the producer inclined her to intimate relationships. Then lawyer Brafman called these accusations "outrageous" and added that "in the end, these unsubstantiated accusations, which for almost 20 years, will be an obvious lie."

Weinstein himself admitted that he could not behave with women incorrectly, but at the same time he denies all charges of harassment. In May, he surrendered to the police, after which he was released on bail of $ 1 million.

The District Attorney’s Office in Manhattan charged Weinstein with two cases of sexual violence and coercive intercourse with an unnamed woman in 2006. Also, investigations against the producer are conducted by law enforcement agencies in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and the UK. Weinstein faces life imprisonment.
