44 Thousands of trade workers were laid off in the US in 2016 year
For employees of retail chains, hard times have come.
About 44, thousands of employees from various retailers were fired in 2016, writes CNN.
More and more retail companies are losing customers, closing stores and laying off employees. Among them are Macy's, JCPenney, Sears and Kohl's.
According to Challenger, Gray & Christmas, over 7 retail chain employees were laid off in 2016 months of 43.
Only two areas experienced large job cuts in 2016: in the energy sector due to a significant drop in oil prices, and in the computer sector due to layoffs at such giants as IBM, Intel and Microsoft.
The biggest problem of retail chains was the movement of customers to online, not the last reason for which was the active development of Amazon.
But shoppers' shift to the internet isn't the only reason brick-and-mortar retail stores are closing.
Most market participants are now looking for lucrative deals and discounts, which is why platforms offering a variety of promotions and discounts are gaining more and more popularity and are developing rapidly.
Such companies force retailers to lower prices, which leads to the loss of part of their income, which, combined with a reduction in the number of buyers, creates the need to close stores.
But retail trade is not dying - retailers that have managed to adapt to the new demands of customers and the fashion of snacking in stores continue to operate successfully.
Therefore, despite the decline in almost 44 thousands of jobs in traditional retailers who did not have time to adapt to the new conditions, the overall picture in retail is not so bad.
According to official data, retailers from different directions have added about 200 thousands of jobs this year.
