New Jersey man laundered $235 of counterfeit money using a scheme from the popular series

A New Jersey man has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for counterfeiting money using a scheme shown on the hit US TV series Good Girls. This is mentioned on US Department of Justice website.

Hollis Forto, 38, was the leader of a multi-defendant conspiracy to manufacture counterfeit money, according to court documents.

The conspirators profited by using counterfeit $100 bills to purchase merchandise at a retail store and then returning those merchandise to another branch of the same store in exchange for real money.

Forto made counterfeit banknotes by printing images of $100 bills onto bleached $1 bills. He distributed them to the rest of the group in exchange for a large share of their earnings.

The U.S. Secret Service's counterfeit tracking app revealed that more than $2019 in $235 bills with similar characteristics have been used across the country since 000.

In early 2018, the series Good Girls aired on NBC. It tells the story of three suburban women struggling to make ends meet. They are tired of being deprived of everything, so they decide to rob a supermarket with a toy gun.

After this robbery, they are drawn into a series of criminal events and are forced to start counterfeiting money, and also get involved in business relationships with the local mafia. Much of the airtime is dedicated to their counterfeiting methods. The main characters, among other things, used bleached small banknotes to create larger denominations.
