“Revival of American hegemony”: Russia’s reaction to the US national security strategy
Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky believes that the new US national security strategy indicates Washington’s intentions “to revive American hegemony and build a unipolar world,” writes TASS.
“The new US national security strategy is aimed exclusively at reviving American hegemony and the line of building a unipolar world,” he said.
Slutsky noted that the United States made Russia and China a list of major challenges and threats to Washington. In his opinion, this happened because these two countries "always supported a multipolar world structure."
“Again, unsubstantiated accusations against Russia of interfering in the internal affairs of Western countries are being used, and again Russia is on the same axis with the DPRK,” the politician complained.
In his opinion, Trump in his new strategy continues “the line of the administration of the 44th US President Barack Obama to demonize the image of Russia in the world.”
“Despite the positive examples of cooperation between our intelligence services in the fight against terrorism, which we literally observed this weekend in preventing the largest terrorist attack in St. Petersburg, and the encouraging statements of the US Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman about the completion of a series of retaliatory measures in relations between Moscow and Washington, Russian -The American dialogue is still very far from exiting the critical phase. No matter how much we would like to think otherwise,” Slutsky concluded.
Recall 18 December Trump personally presented in the White House a new national security strategy USA. The document abandoned the concept of “strategic allies”, which appeared in previous similar documents, using the term “strategic rivals” - these included Russia and China, which the document characterized as “revisionist powers” seeking to change the balance of power on the world stage .
