The United States Ambassador to Russia, John Huntsman, answered the question about the ownership of the Crimea in his next video, which was posted on Twitter at the US Embassy in Moscow.

“You do not need to ask the US ambassador a question that can be answered by anyone who is familiar with international law,” Huntsman said on the social network. “Crimea is Ukraine.”

The ambassador also stressed that “in order to improve Russian-American relations, the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine is absolutely necessary.”

The reaction of Russia

Natalia Makeeva, Deputy Director of the Center for Geopolitical Expertise on the air Sputnik commented on this statement. She is quoted RIA News.

“In my opinion, the Americans believe in this, because they see the world in their coordinate system. And in their coordinate system, Russia should be weakened, Russia should lose territories, and not return them to its composition. Naturally, the ambassador voiced the political position of his state, his elites. And I think that in the foreseeable future, the United States will adhere to precisely this position, while the recognition of Crimea as Russian in fact will occur throughout the world. This will be a “creeping” process that will stretch over years. When the legal recognition of Crimea by Russia from the European states and the USA will happen is a big question. It is possible that this will happen only in a few decades. But I would like to emphasize that the recognition after the fact - the entry of companies, visits of officials and certain contacts - will take place in the foreseeable future, ”said Natalia Makeeva.

Recall Russia occupied Crimea in 2014 year, and also provides support to terrorists in the east of Ukraine. In order to annex the Crimea to the territory of Russia, Moscow organized a pseudo-referendum there, forcing people to vote at gunpoint. The international community did not recognize this referendum and its results.
