In Florida, a random witness saved the mother and child from a sinking machine
Mother and child were rescued from a sinking car after the vehicle somehow ended up in a pond near a Florida highway.
The incident occurred on the road near Lauderhill, at a motorway exit south near Sunrise Boulevard, on Friday morning, reports NBC.
According to rescuers, nearby witnesses saw that the car got into the pond and quickly rescued mother and child. They were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Local resident Miguel Enrique said that it was he who jumped into the water to get to the car and save a woman and a child.
“I'm not a hero. What matters to me is that I saved two lives. I went into the water, it got deeper and deeper, and I told the woman: “I will save the child, and then I will come back and save you,” the man said.
Enrique and his colleagues were part of a landscape team that cut trees near the pond.
The man said that he climbed into the SUV through the back door, unhooked the child from the car seat and handed it to another man, who was waiting on the beach to help him.
“I didn’t know if it was deep or shallow, but I had to save them. Because I also have children and maybe tomorrow someone will help my family or someone else who needs it,” the man explained the motives for his actions.
The photographs from the scene show that the car was almost completely submerged.
The cause of the accident is being investigated.
