Uber found a mistake that allows you to ride for free

In the taxi service, Uber found and eliminated a vulnerability that allowed ordering free trips.
Bug was found by a cybersecurity expert Anand Prakash. Having told about the vulnerability of the representatives of Uber, the researcher received permission and successfully received free trips to the USA and India with the help of the bug, writes Rusbase.
In his blog, Prakash explained that the vulnerability was embedded in the code of the official site of the service. By changing the code of the travel payment method to almost any sequence of characters (for example, zyxxxx), the specialist managed to book a free trip. In his post, Prakash also posted a video with a partial demonstration.
According to Prakash, he discovered a bug in August 2016 of the year, after which he gave Uber data about him as part of the rewards program for hackers on the HackerOne website. The service fixed the vulnerability on the same day, and Prakash received $ 5 thousand for his report.
In a conversation with the publication, a representative of Uber confirmed this information, noting that the company “appreciates the contribution of Anand”. It clarifies TechCrunch, Prakash also regularly reports about vulnerabilities in Facebook.
Recall that Uber uses special software that allows you not to take orders from officials, police officers and other government officials in those cities where the company’s activities are prohibited or under investigation.
