In the US, tightening checks on domestic flights
After tightening security checks on international flights heading to the United States, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced it has tightened electronic checks on domestic flights in the United States.
Travelers at TSA checkpoints at airports will have to remove all electronics larger than mobile phones from their bags and put it in a separate box for scanning, reports USA Today.
The purpose of tightening checks is to better examine the contents of travelers' bags, as well as to check their electronics more carefully after the secret services assumed that the terrorists had learned to hide explosives in electronics.
Stricter controls are already applied at 10 airports (Boise, Boston, Colorado Springs, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Lubbock, Phoenix and San Juan), where it was tested, in the coming months it will be phased in at all US airports.
Earlier, the United States imposed a ban on the transportation of large-scale electronics in the hand luggage for ten countries in Africa and the Middle East, but after airlines and airports in these countries tightened security checks in accordance with US requirements, ban was lifted.
Now more stringent security checks are performed by 180 airlines flying to the US from 280 airports around the world.
