The first child appeared in Russia, named after the annexation of Crimea by Russia. So, the civil registry office of Yekaterinburg registered a boy - Crimea Aleksandrovich.

“The annexation of Crimea to Russia is a significant event for every Russian, and registering a child with the name of the peninsula is not an out-of-the-ordinary situation, although it is non-standard,” said Vladimir Maksimov, director of the “Family History” research center. He noted that in fact such a name has existed for hundreds of years, and the Turkic peoples use it.

There is nothing surprising in the use of such names - a similar tradition has existed among all nations for many centuries, the expert noted. “From time immemorial, in Russian families, the naming of children still went back to the church name. At the beginning of the 20th century, so-called red names were extremely popular - they were given in honor of revolutionary figures. And not only Soviet, but also French - for example, children were called Marats,” said Vladimir Maksimov.

“Some specific Soviet names given to children by “overexcited” parents never took root and fell out of the name list - these are Dazdraperma (Long live the First of May!), Oyushminald (Otto Yulievich Schmidt on the ice floe), Rem (revolution, electrification, Marxism), however, Vladlen (Vladimir Lenin), for example, sounds euphonious and is no longer perceived as a name necessarily associated with a political figure. Crimea will not have any special problems - in Russia, most people perceive the annexation of the peninsula as something natural, positive and important,” he believes.

Also in Russia over the past three years, several girls named Olympiada have appeared. This is a real Greek name, the expert noted. “From time to time, these children may have to talk about the history of their name, about how their parents came to the decision to give their child a special name, but this is romantic,” noted Vladimir Maksimov.

The annexation of the Crimea led to the introduction of sanctions on Russia by USA и countries EU.

This is the third visit of the President of Russia to the peninsula since the moment when Crimea was annexed by Russia in March 2014.
