In Denver, Colorado, landlord Katina Gatchis, who refused to rent a restaurant room to a Muslim family, will pay $ 675 thousand as part of a settlement agreement, writes Rtvi.

Rashad Khan and his father, Zuned, were looking for a place for a family Indian restaurant in Denver and found Craig Caldwell. He decided to close his restaurant and, in order not to pay the rent for the premises for the next few years, he intended to sublet it.

However, for this it was necessary to obtain the consent of Gatchis. As a result, when Caldwell informed her about this, she declared that she would only give the room to an American. The man was shocked and decided to record the next conversation with Gatchis on a dictaphone (which is allowed in the state if at least one of the interlocutors is aware of the recording).

And he recorded a conversation in which a woman said that he would turn in the room only American:

“I need an American! The same good man, like you and me. "

"They bring Muslims from the Middle East, and then I will have problems, bam and boom, bam and boom," she said.

As a result, Caldwell handed over the recording of the conversation to his lawyer and based on them filed a lawsuit against Gatchis. The court documents say that the woman did not deny such a conversation and confirmed that the "records are accurate." She also acknowledged that she had subjected the “unlawful discrimination” to the Khan family, but noted that Caldwell could not sublet without her consent in accordance with the terms of the original lease agreement.

“My dad and I just wanted to make sure that justice exists,” added Khan.

According to the latest annual report of the Colorado Civil Rights Commission, 96 people in the state complained of discrimination on the basis of religion and 432 on discrimination on the basis of race.
