Kentucky man bitten to death by swarm of bees

A Kentucky man has died after being attacked by a swarm of bees. This happened when he was carrying an old bag of earth from the porch, he writes Independent.

Harlan County Deputy Coroner John Jones said the 59-year-old man's relatives performed CPR on him until paramedics arrived.

The victim was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The man's identity has not yet been released, and the official cause of his death is pending autopsy results.

“Our sincere condolences go out to all the family and friends,” the coroner’s office said on social media.

Authorities did not specify which bees were involved in the incident or how many times they stung the victim.

Anyone who has been attacked by bees is warned to cover their face and hide indoors or get into a car.

“Once the bees go wild, the most important thing is to run away as quickly as possible. Do not try to reach nearby items. Do not try to deceive the bees by standing still. It may work on a snake under certain circumstances, but it will have no effect on honey bees,” the University of Arizona College of Agriculture and Life Sciences strongly recommends.

According to data from the Center for Disease Control, between 2011 and 2021 in the United States, 788 people died from hornet, wasp and bee stings - an average of 72 deaths per year.
