In Israel, had a complicated liver transplant operation
The last few years in Israel, much attention has been paid to the topic of donation and transplantation, but the problem of organ shortage for transplantation remains very acute.
Liver lobe transplants from an adult to an adult in the world began to be done quite recently, thus trying to reduce the catastrophic shortage of donor organs. And now this technology has begun to be applied in Israel.
A similar operation was carried out recently at the Schneider Children's Medical Center. 15-year-old Liav Tiv from the village of Avshalom was hospitalized in critical condition, after which he was diagnosed with acute liver failure.
“Two weeks ago, my son started having severe abdominal pain, which lasted for several days,” recalls Liava’s father. “The hospital told us that most likely it was a virus that would go away soon. But after the whites of Liav’s eyes turned yellow, we were urgently sent for a thorough examination, which revealed liver destruction. Doctors said that an immediate liver lobe transplant was required. I didn't think for a minute. He told them: “Take everything from me, everything you need, just save my boy. It's fortunate that I turned out to be a suitable donor. I would even sacrifice my heart if necessary.”
Fortunately, the most complicated operation on liver lobe transplantation was successful, and at the moment Liav and his father are recovering.
