American writer, Pulitzer Prize winner Philip Roth died
Philip Roth died - an American writer, author of more than 25 novels, which are translated into dozens of foreign languages.
Roth gained worldwide fame as the author of the novels “The Portnoy Case”, “Zuckerman Unchained”, “Don’t Care”, “The Plot Against America” and others, writes Air force.
He was repeatedly nominated for the Nobel Prize in literature, but he never received it.
At the same time, the writer collected most of the other prestigious literary awards during his life, including the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for American Pastoral and the 2011 Man Booker International Prize.
Readers often drew attention to the theme of Jewish life present in many of the writer’s works, but Roth himself did not agree to consider himself a “Jewish-American writer.”
“The epithet ‘Jewish-American writer’ makes no sense to me,” he said. “If I’m not an American, then I’m nobody.”
Like any major writer, when talking about his heroes, he always talked about himself. About the relationship with his father, always difficult, about the relationship with his origin - a Jewish refugee from European Galicia - always very difficult.
In total, over the course of his career, Philip Roth published more than 30 novels. The last of them came out in 2009 year.
Roth's novels have been filmed, the most famous of which is the film with Anthony Hopkins and Nicole Kidman, called "Tarnished Reputation" in Russian distribution.
In 2014, the writer gave an interview to the BBC, which, according to his plan, was his last.
“I guarantee you that this is my last performance on television... and in general my last appearance on any stage anywhere,” the American classic said then.
