The footage shows the engine catching fire about 10 minutes after takeoff from the Houston airport.
Flight 1118 took off from George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston around 18:30 p.m. He was heading to Southwest International Airport in Fort Myers, Florida.

“Grateful to be safely on the ground. United Flight 1118 was on fire over the Gulf of Mexico,” one passenger wrote in X.
On the subject: At Boston Airport, two JetBlue planes collided on the runway.
United Airlines said the pilot turned the plane around and flew it back to Houston after experiencing engine trouble.
“The plane landed safely and passengers disembarked without incident. We arranged for our customers to be transported to their destination on a new aircraft that departed for Fort Myers later that evening,” the statement said.
Fortunately, there were no casualties.
