Starbucks in Oklahoma charged spouses $4456 for two cups of coffee

On Jan. 7, Starbucks withdrew over $4000 for two cups of coffee from an Oklahoma couple's account. The couple still can't get their money back, reports WSMV.

Jessie and Didi O'Dell said their bill for two cups of coffee is usually around $10, but this time they were charged $7 on January 4456,27th.

According to Didi O'Dell, she noticed it after a couple of days when she was at the mall with her four children. She used the same card to buy something at the store, and to her surprise, the payment was declined.

The couple said they discovered Starbucks had taken a $4 tip on top of their order.

Jesse O'Dell said he contacted the Starbucks area manager about the incident and was told there was a problem with the network.

The couple said Starbucks sent them two checks for the total tip, but when they tried to deposit the checks into their account, they were denied.

"We contacted the Starbucks customer service line 30 to 40 times that day," Jesse O'Dell said. — We received a call from a representative who said he was sending new checks. But as of today, we still haven’t received them.”

According to the couple, they filed a complaint with the Tulsa Police Department about the incident. At the same time, they canceled the family vacation due to the lack of money situation.

“We were planning a trip but had to cancel it and the tickets are non-refundable,” said Jesse O'Dell.

The couple urged everyone to check their payments.

“This is what has caused difficulties in our family and hopefully others will not have to go through something similar,” said Jesse O'Dell.

A Starbucks spokesperson said the company is aware of the situation and attributed the incident to a possible human error.

According to the company, the team contacted the couple, who are supposed to receive new checks in the mail.
