Russian soldiers at the Capitol: a propaganda calendar was released in Russia
The calendar, sold by a charity supporting veterans of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB), contains strikingly propagandistic images. Among them, for example, is a Russian soldier who is ready for war at the US Capitol in Washington, DC. Writes about this Newsweek.
The Moscow Times reported on the calendar, which sold for 5 rubles ($228) on the Ozon online platform. The publication wrote that "the contents of the calendar provide a glimpse into the hyper-militarized, pro-war imagery that shapes the worldview of many Russians, and comes against the backdrop of a historic downturn in relations with the West due to the war in Ukraine."
Western countries, especially the United States, have provided Ukraine with billions of dollars in aid and military support as the country defends against a full-scale invasion launched by Russian President Vladimir Putin in February 2022. Since then, Putin has blamed the West for the conflict, claiming that countries such as the United States are stoking tensions between Russia and Ukraine. US President Joe Biden, meanwhile, called Putin “just a bandit” and a “bloody dictator.”

Proceeds from the sale of the 2024 calendar will reportedly go to veterans of the FSB, which is considered the security agency that replaced the Soviet Union's KGB.
One of the drawings that sparked outrage on social media shows an armed Russian soldier standing in front of the US Capitol. Around the building where the state legislative bodies hold their meetings, smoke billows, and planes circle above it. The image was used for November, the month in which the next presidential election in the United States will take place.
Other illustrations of the calendar include Putin with exaggerated muscles and a T-shirt with an unmistakable Z symbol. Other pictures show Russian soldiers with women, children, cats and a Cheburashka. (The popular fictional character Cheburashka is called by many the “Russian Mickey Mouse”).
The December calendar is illustrated with an image of a Russian bear confronting a tornado. On the recognizable tricolor ribbon is the inscription “It doesn’t matter who is against, it is important who is nearby!”

Chairman of the Veterans Support Fund Nikolai Guryev, in a conversation with reporters, downplayed the likelihood that the image of the US Capitol could be interpreted as a threat.
“I wanted to convey to the audience that we have a strong country and a strong leader,” Guryev said. “This will not end well for the United States, and this is what can happen to this wonderful country because of those who run it so incompetently.”
