The couple decided to raise money for the wedding through GoFundMe: this outraged many people

A Canadian woman said on Reddit that she has friends who have taken to a crowdfunding site to ask strangers to give them money for their wedding. The publication told in more detail Daily Mail.

The woman is "absolutely thrilled" that the couple were bold enough to use the platform to raise funds for their wedding and, in their words, "ease some of the financial stress of starting a new chapter in our lives."

Commenters were so outraged that one suggested they should "reconsider" their plans if they couldn't afford to pay for the wedding themselves.

The post read: “I know someone who was with their partner for six months and they got engaged. But that's not the problem... The problem is that they started a $10 GoFundMe fundraiser to have the wedding of their dreams. I was absolutely delighted. Imagine asking others to pay $10.”

The author later shared snapshots of the GoFundMe page, and many were quick to comment that it was "disgraceful."

Describing their vision for the big day, the couple wrote: “Imagine the glow of the setting sun as we exchange vows under a beautiful vine-covered gazebo. Imagine the smiles, tears of joy and hugs from our loved ones celebrating our union. With your help, we will be able to make this dream a reality, which will resonate in our lives for many years.”

“Like many other hopeful young couples, we face financial challenges that limit our ability to plan the wedding we have always dreamed of. This is where your generosity and support can make a world of difference in our lives,” it continues. “We decided to create this GoFundMe campaign to humbly ask for your support in making our wedding dreams a reality.”

“From the day we met, we have been there for each other supporting and encouraging each other through life's ups and downs. Now we are ready to take a step forward and celebrate our love in the most meaningful way,” the couple writes. “We envision a wedding that reflects our personalities and the love we share.” A day filled with joy, laughter and unforgettable memories not only for us, but also for our loved ones.”

Many were quick to leave comments, noting that they were “embarrassed” for the couple.

One person even said, "I'm ashamed of them."

Another echoed: "If you (or your parents) can't afford the wedding of your dreams, then maybe you need to reconsider your wedding dreams."

No less negative was the following comment: “I've heard of weddings with a budget 5 or 10 times larger, but they are paid for by the newlyweds themselves or their parents, not strangers, damn it!”

There was also this sentiment: “Shouldn’t your dream wedding be about marrying the person you love most in the world? All the bells and whistles are all well and good, but there's no way this fancy caterer is going to hold your hand on your 50th birthday."

And finally - a short but succinct phrase: “How disgusting they are.”
