Died the dirtiest man in the world: he did not wash for 60 years, but before his death he still bathed
Iranian hermit Amu Haji, who has been dubbed the 'dirtiest man in the world' for not showering in over half a century, has died at the age of 94, a few months after his first wash. TheGuardian.
Uncle Haji (this is how “Amu Haji” is literally translated from the Farsi language) was something of a local attraction, and from time to time journalists, including those from the capital, came to him to please their readers with another funny story, reports with the BBC.
For example, in 2014, in an interview with the English-language Tehran Times, he admitted that he loves porcupine meat most of all and prefers to live in an earthen hole, although sometimes he sleeps in a hut that kind-hearted neighbors built especially for him. He explained his unusual way of life by the fact that in his youth he suffered a series of emotional upheavals.

Amu Haji was also a big fan of tobacco, and sometimes smoked several cigarettes at the same time, holding them in a row between his fingers. For many years without soap and a washcloth, the skin of the hermit turned black and covered with soot, but this did not bother him at all. Apparently, the rotten meat that he ate, and not the freshest water that he drank from an old canister, did not affect his health either.
However, when a couple of months ago, fellow villagers nevertheless convinced him to take a bath, something obviously went wrong, Uncle Hadji began to grow weak and On October 23, in the village of Deygah in the southern province of Fars, he died. What exactly caused the death is not reported, but one can guess that the unexpected change in hygiene habits did not benefit him.
Now, however, another question has arisen: can the Iranian hermit be considered the record holder for avoiding the bath. The fact is that back in 2009, there were reports of an Indian who had not washed or brushed his teeth for 35 years, which today could well lead him to a record.

In 2009, the Hindustan Times reported that Kailash "Kalau" Singh, from a village outside the holy city of Varanasi, had not bathed for over 30 years in an attempt to help end "all the problems the nation is facing".
He forsook water in favor of what he called a "fire bath". “Each evening, when the villagers gather, Kalau lights a fire, smokes marijuana, and stands on one foot in prayer to Lord Shiva,” the paper says.
Singh is reported to have said, "It's like using water to take a bath. The fire bath helps to kill all germs and infections in the body.”
However, no one can say with certainty whether the potential record holder is alive: he has long disappeared from media attention and for many years no new messages about him have appeared.
