The creators of The Simpsons filmed an episode about catching Pokemon in a temple. In one scene, Homer and comic book seller Jeff Albertson enter a church to catch another monster, Reverend Timothy Lovejoy reprimands them, to which he receives the answer: “This game is more popular than Jesus.” There is no direct mention of the case of Russian Ruslan Sokolovsky, who is being tried in his homeland for catching Pokemon in a temple, but the Russian media have begun to actively discuss this topic, the portal reports Meduza.

The TV channel “2×2” even warned in advance that it would not broadcast the episode.

Theologians of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) advocated tightening the age limit for the American animated series “The Simpsons” because of the new episode, writes TASS.

According to the clergy, children should be protected from watching the new episode of “The Simpsons,” as this information could “shake their moral foundations.” “Everything that is not prohibited by law is permitted. Therefore, no one can ban the showing of The Simpsons. However, children need to be protected from watching it, since this cartoon is anti-aesthetic,” the clergyman said.

According to another clergyman, the goal of this propaganda is to disintegrate society, including in Russia, “therefore it is necessary to strengthen control over the media product.”

At the beginning of August 2016, Ural blogger Ruslan Sokolovsky made a video about how he caught Pokemon in the Church on the Blood in Yekaterinburg, which caused a mixed reaction among believers. Based on this fact, a criminal case was opened under the articles “Inciting hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity”, “Violation of the right to freedom of conscience and religion”.
