Airlines have come up with a new way to secure laptops on board the aircraft

As the Department of Homeland Security enhances airline safety, one passenger told the publication USA Today about the new standards in force at Doha airport, Qatar, for flights Qatar Airways to New York JFK airport.

“At the checkpoint for the flight to New York, I had to take out my laptop and power cord so that workers could test it for explosives,” said an eyewitness.

"Then they sealed the laptop and the cord in the bag duty-free, where he was supposed to remain until I cleared security to board the flight to the US,” he added.

“The laptop was sealed from the moment I arrived at the checkpoint, until I arrived on the plane, which did not take extra time. Hooray!".

Qatar Airways was among nine airlines in March banned to transport electronic devices larger than a mobile phone, aboard direct flights to the USA.

The so-called ban on the use of a laptop was a response to a terrorist act, when terrorists hid explosives in electronics.

Then on June 28, the US Department of Homeland Security announced more stringent controls on 180 airlines heading to the US from 280 airports in 105 districts. All this in order to detect hidden explosives and prevent the smuggling of bombs on board aircraft.

But airlines could get out of the ban laptops on board under new standards. So far, with seven of the nine airlines, the ban has been withdrawnincluding Qatar.
