Drank methanol and cow urine: hundreds of people died due to misinformation about COVID-19
In the first three months of 2020, at least 800 people died due to misinformation about Covid-19, according to a new study published in the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, writes Air force.
About 5800 people were hospitalized due to false information they received on social media.
A significant number of deaths have occurred as a result of people using methanol and other alcohol-containing products.
The victims, the study authors say, mistakenly believed the drugs were helping in the fight against Covid-19.
Many of the victims followed advice that sounded like reliable medical information but was in fact false.

Some of them, for example, ate large amounts of garlic, believing that this would protect them from infection, others ate cow urine.
All of these actions, the scientists say, had “potentially serious consequences for their health.”
The World Health Organization previously stated that the “infodemic,” that is, the spread of fake news around Covid-19, is spreading as quickly as the coronavirus itself.
