Obama: US should not interfere in all conflicts
The United States should not be tempted to interfere in everything that happens abroad, said US President Barack Obama, presenting the draft national security strategy for the last two years of his stay at the White House.
The document in the 29 pages contains the well-established views of Obama on the role of America in the world, reports the Associated Press.
It does not envisage major changes in approaches to the military campaign against the Islamic State or to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
In addition, the project deals with ensuring cyber security, combating climate change and ensuring the rights of gays in the world.
The resources and influence of the country are not unlimited, Obama said.
The President believes that the terrorist threat within the United States has diminished, but it has not disappeared.
The United States will not wage full-scale ground wars against groups like the Islamic State. They will be fought through counter-terrorism operations.
The United States will always protect its national interests and support its allies and partners, Obama said, writes BBC News.
