On the eve of July 4 gasoline prices rose in seven states

Oklahoma turned out to be one of seven states among South Carolina, Indiana, Maryland, Tennessee, Vermont and Iowa, which increased the tax on gasoline to finance the construction or repair of roads and bridges. And the state of Nebraska, on the contrary, lowered its tax on gasoline.

Due to the tax increase, the price of gas in Oklahoma has increased by 3 cents per gallon, the cost of diesel fuel - by 6 cents per gallon.

Teachers ’mass protests began this spring in Oklahoma, West Virginia, Kentucky and other states. They prompted the Oklahoma Legislature to increase taxes on cigarettes, fuel, and oil and gas to pay an increase of $ 6100 per year in average wages and to increase funding for schools, peripheral staff, and staff.

“The last time the gas tax rate was raised, the Berlin Wall was still standing and Congress was debating whether to ban smoking on flights less than two hours,” said Carl Davis, research director at the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy.

Changes occur as a record number of people are projected to travel on July 4. AAA predicts that 46,9 million Americans will travel no less than 50 miles.

“This Independence Day will be one of record-breaking times as more Americans drive, fly and sail than ever before,” said Bill Sutherland, senior vice president of AAA Travel and Publishing.

Gasoline prices fell last month but are still markedly higher than a year ago, according to travel club AAA. The average price per gallon was $2,85 on Sunday, up from nearly $2,96 a month earlier but still significantly higher than a year ago at $2,24, according to AAA.

How the increase in the gas tax rate affected the cost of fuel in other states

In South Carolina, gasoline and diesel prices rose 2 cent per gallon.

Indiana's gas tax raised prices by 1,8 cents per gallon and diesel by 1 cent.

Maryland gasoline and diesel prices rose 1,5 cent per gallon based on the 2013 approved formula for inflation and motor fuel prices.

In Tennessee, the price of gasoline increased by 1 cent per gallon, and diesel fuel increased by 3 cent as part of a gradual increase from 2017 year to 6 cents per gas and 10 cents per diesel.

The gas tax in Vermont increased by 0,42 cent per gallon, while the diesel rate remained unchanged.

The tax rate in Iowa raised the cost of gasoline by 0,2 cents.

Nebraska gas and diesel taxes reduced their 0,4 cent price per gallon using a formula based on fuel prices and infrastructure costs.
