Team Muller interrogated Russian oligarchs

The team of special prosecutor Robert Muller, who is investigating Russia's interference in the American elections, interrogated Russian oligarchs traveling to the United States. At least one of them was searched by electronic devices after his private plane landed at New York airport.

Another oligarch was interviewed quite recently during his visit to the USA, although it is unclear whether his electronics were searched.

The Muller team also sent an unofficial request for a voluntary interview to a third Russian oligarch who is outside the United States.

All the oligarchs are asked the same question: did they send illegal donations directly or indirectly to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign or his inauguration.

Such interrogations indicate that the Muller team has stepped up their attention on the potential flow of money from Russia aimed at the Trump campaign.

The approach to the Russian oligarchs can also mean that the Muller team has already received records or documents indicating such remittances, and now, in conversations with the oligarchs, investigators are trying to extract additional information.

In accordance with the campaign finance law, foreign citizens are prohibited from sending donations to political campaigns in the United States.

Sources did not disclose the names of the interrogated oligarchs, but described the details of their interaction with the special counsel team.

According to sources, one of the areas to which investigations are directed is the investments made by Russians in favor of companies or analytical centers, which later donated money to Trump’s election campaign.

According to sources, another theory of the investigation is that rich Russians used bogus donors who have US citizenship, through which they donated money for an election campaign or Trump's inauguration.

The investigators met most of the oligarchs questioned at airports, hoping for a surprise effect.

Also, the team of the special prosecutor is interested in several American citizens born in the former Soviet republics and maintaining ties with these countries. These people also attracted the attention of the investigation in the light of the funding of the Trump campaign.

According to the Center for Response Policy, Trump drew 333 million dollars for his presidential campaign. His inaugural committee collected a record 106,8 million dollars, which is two times more than any of its predecessors.
