Immigration attorney in New York forged data in asylum applications

Andrea Dumitru Parkalaba, an immigration lawyer who worked in Queens, New York, 19 November was found guilty of fraud in applying for asylum in the US, as well as stealing personal data.

According to investigators, 43-year-old Dumitru submitted knowingly false statements and information on more than 100 applications for asylum in the United States. She was found guilty of immigration fraud (the maximum penalty for this charge is 10 years in prison), providing false information to government agencies (the maximum penalty is 5 years in prison), and identity theft (two years in prison), it said Online US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Services.

According to the indictment, from 27 in March 2013 of the year to 2017, Dumitru used a fraudulent scheme to submit the I-589 forms required when applying for asylum in the United States, with false information. In particular, Dumitru filed more than 100 statements in which she deliberately pointed out false information: the applicants' personal stories of harassment, criminal stories and travel histories. Dumitru deliberately fabricated personal stories about abuse of her clients in her homeland, and also forged the signatures of her clients.
