Ilon Musk announced the opening date of an underground tunnel near Los Angeles

Elon Musk tweeted that his Boring Company will open a section of the high-speed tunnel under Los Angeles on December 10. The project, which the company previously called a "test tunnel," located between downtown Los Angeles and Torrance, will demonstrate the Loop system, inside which you can travel at speeds of up to 250 kilometers per hour.

Passengers ride on an electrically powered platform called a “skate.” Such a device can either independently transport from 8 to 16 passengers, or move a car that has driven onto the platform before the start, writes King5.

Elevators move these skates between the surface and the tunnel system. When completed, the system will be a series of tunnels, a multi-layered design with platforms moving in different directions within. In this case, shorter segments will act as underground exit overpasses.

Elevator shafts can reach directly to locations on city streets - as shown in the company's video - or "flow" into garages of houses, as well as office basements.

The Loop system is different from the proposed higher-level Hyperloop projects. In the new system, air is sucked out of the tunnels, which (as the Boring Company sees it) allows platforms in theory to travel at speeds up to 1000 kilometers per hour.

The Hyperloop technology is also advertised by Virgin Hyperloop One, whose board of directors is headed by Richard Branson, and Hyperloop Transportation Technologies. Hyperloop One uses elevated and underground tunnels from Kansas City Street to St. Louis Street, using magnetic levitation to keep vehicles in a pipe. Recently, Hyperloop TT unveiled a new prototype of this tool in Spain, a platform for 40 passengers.
