Ilon Mask plans to sell Tesla brand tequila

On April 1, the Tesla founder jokingly announced the company's bankruptcy on Twitter and posted a photo of himself with the caption: “Elon was found unconscious surrounded by bottles of Teslaquila and with traces of dried tears on his face.” The bankruptcy did not take place, but the joke about tequila, it seems, will come true.

On Monday, Tesla officially filed an application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for registration of the Teslaquila trademark, writes CNBC. The drink will be “agave distillate” and “blue agave distillate,” the publication specifies.

The other day, Elon Musk posted a photo of a bottle of tequila with a new brand label on it, and said that Teslaquila was “expected.”

It is clarified that registering a trademark does not guarantee that the drink will enter the market, but the company has declared a “good faith intention” to use the brand in the future.

In April, Tesla applied for registration of this trademark in Jamaica, and now intends to confirm its right to use the mark in the United States, based on the first application.

This was done for a reason: since the current application was filed within six months after overseas, the Office undertakes to ensure Tesla has the earliest date for filing documents for registration of the mark. This means that if someone else tries to register a brand with the same name, such applications will be rejected.
