Euro-2016: the French beat the world champions and reached the final
The French team defeated the German national team, the reigning world champions, with the 2: 0 score in the semifinals of the European Championship home championship for themselves.
In the final, which will be the first for the French after the victorious Euro-2000, Didier Deschamps will be confronted by Portugal.
By the way, 16 years ago Deschamps was the captain of the “golden” French team, which in 1998 won the World Championship, also held in France.
The semi-final match between the national teams of Germany and France at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille was held with a variable advantage for both teams, but in the last minute of the first half a penalty was awarded for the handling of the German captain Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Penalty realized the best scorer of Euro-2016 Antoine Griezmann, who in the second half, distinguished himself again, successfully playing on the finishing.
Griezmann now has 6 goals in six matches of the tournament, while his closest pursuers, including the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, have 3 goals each.
The 2016 European Championship final will take place on July 10 at the Stade de France in the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis.
In case of victory, the French team will be a three-time European champion.
The Portuguese on the continental championships have not previously won. They once played in the final, at the home European 2004 European Championship, but lost to the Greek national team.
