An extreme race with obstacles will take place in New York this summer.

In July, 2014 for the first time in New York will take place an extreme obstacle race called Urban Mudder, the urban equivalent of the famous Tough Mudder race, invented in the UK.

The tough obstacle race was designed to train British special forces and is one of the most grueling and extreme challenges in the world. Strength, endurance, quick wit and camaraderie are the key to victory. For the first time this event took place in 2010, and has since gathered many thousands of fans around the world.

The New York Urban Mudder race will be very different from the British, primarily because it will take place in urban environments, and not in the countryside, as in England. It will take place, according to the plans of the organizers, on July 25 on Randall Island, located on the East River.

Race participants will have to cross the 5 miles course (in the original Tough Mudder, its length is 10-12 miles). They will have to climb up the brick walls, run along the railway tracks with obstacles and go through the “laser minefield”. The latter will strongly resemble an episode from the movie “Mission Impossible”, where the main character had to wade between a variety of laser beams, trying not to hurt them. In the final race, participants will jump from a height of 6 feet into the hands of teammates.

Urban Mudder is a team game, and without the support of friends, such a course simply cannot be overcome, the organizers believe.

The number of participants will be limited to a thousand, organizers say. The race will take one day.
