Two-meter shark jumped on a fishing boat in Maine: the incident was caught on video

“This only happens once in a lifetime. Luckily, no one on board was hurt,” Sea Ventures Charters, owner of the Lady Anne fishing boat, said in a Facebook post.

The people on the boat, mostly teenagers and their fathers, were on a shark fishing expedition off the coast of Maine in August. It all started when a 7-foot (2,1 m) mako shark took the bait.

When she jumped out of the water, trying to free herself from the line, she landed on the deck of a 38-foot (11,5 m) boat.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration notes that mako sharks can grow up to 13 feet (3,9 m) in length and can weigh nearly 1200 pounds (544 kg). It is a fast swimming migratory species that swims 30 miles (48 km) per day. In addition, they are surprisingly acrobatic - it is not uncommon for someone to jump onto a fishing boat.

In this case, the uninvited guest was microchipped and released back into the ocean. Captain Dave Sinclair said that everything "happened very quickly".

"We've dealt with many sharks over the years, but makos are special - they tend to act wild and crazy," he said.
