Baseball bat against a bear: a family from Colorado miraculously fought off a predator

On Monday evening, 26 August, an incident occurred in Jefferson Rural County, Colorado. The family found in their kitchen two bears eating a piece of bread.

Animals entered the house through the door. A couple, including an 71-year-old man, went into the kitchen to investigate the noise and saw bears there.

The man hit the animal, and his wife attacked him with a baseball bat, until both bears ran out the door.

The woman was not injured, and the man received scratches and cuts on his face and hands.

Colorado's Law on Parks and Wildlife states that a bear should be put to sleep if it attacks a person. The female bear was found and euthanized. But her cub was not found.

Bears are especially active this time of year, as they try to eat as much food as possible before hibernation, wildlife advocates say.
