Amazon opens first futuristic store in New York

Amazon will open its first non-cashier store at Battery Park City in New York. Amazon Go is like a futuristic store offering ready-to-eat meals and groceries, for which you don’t have to queue up at the checkout.

According to the company, the store will use "Just Walk Out" technology, which automatically tracks the products a customer has picked up and verifies whether they are picked up or returned via a virtual cart. No bills or statements - once you find all the goods or products you need, just take them and you are good to go, writes 6sqft.

Amazon plans to open a store in the atrium of the Winter Garden inside Brookfield Place, a shopping complex opposite the World Trade Center. Amazon Go is currently open in only three cities: in Seattle, on the first floor of the company's headquarters, in Chicago and San Francisco. The company said it hopes to open up thousands of Amazon Go stores to 3 year 2021, according to Bloomberg.

The store uses the same technologies as self-driving cars: for example, computer vision and sensor fusion. Buyers will need to use the Amazon Go app to enter the store. The cost of all products will be deducted from the Amazon account, after which the customer will receive a receipt.

Products offered vary from store to store, but snacks, food sets and ready-to-eat meals will be available everywhere. In addition, there is even a special set of Amazon Meal Kits, developed by chefs and including all the ingredients needed to prepare a meal for two in 30 minutes.

Last month, Amazon opened a store in SoHo that only sells offline products with a 4-star rating or higher. The store is described as a “four-star” store, located at 72 Spring Street and offers top-end products with the opportunity to get actual customer reviews before purchasing them.
