Burger King treats those stuck at US airports with free burgers

Burger King is offering holiday travelers a tasty treat for those whose flights are delayed - free Impossible Whoppers. USA Today.

Until December 30th, the fast food chain is offering a better-than-usual “staycation” experience. Unlike last year's "Whopper Detour" promotion, which sent hungry burger fans to McDonald's restaurants, you'll need to be at the airport to get your free sandwich.

“We know that holiday travel can be extremely challenging, and nothing is worse than all those unmanaged flight delays,” said Chris Finazzo, president of Burger King North America. “We wanted to surprise and delight our guests by offering free Impossible Whoppers to those with delayed flights.”

A vegetable-based hamburger developed by Silicon Valley's Impossible Foods was launched nationwide in August.

Here’s how the promotion works: until December 30, travelers at any US airport can download the BK app and enter information about the delayed flight. After that, users of the application will automatically receive a coupon for the free Impossible Whopper, which can be redeemed at participating Burger King restaurants until January 6.

The network also released a short YouTube video explaining how the ad campaign works.

The promotion only applies to U.S. domestic flights prior to departure, and location services must be included in accordance with the terms of the promotion. Application registration is also required.

Not all restaurants accept digital coupons; the coupon is not valid in Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

According to company representatives, last year, as part of the Whopper Detour Burger King campaign, it downloaded 1,5 million of its applications. The campaign offered penny sandwiches to app users near McDonald's, and then sent them to Burger King.
