Trump abolishes the principles of racial diversity when entering college
President Donald Trump on Tuesday will cancel Obama’s policy guidelines that encouraged racial diversity in colleges, reports The Wall Street Journalreferring to two sources familiar with this question.
The guidelines, beginning with 2011 and 2016, encourage colleges to voluntarily promote diversity and “avoid racial exclusion” in their student enrollment practices.
The Trump administration began searching for lawyers who were interested in investigating "deliberate discrimination based on race" on campuses. Administration attorneys are investigating the 2015 complaint for the year, which claims that Harvard University discriminates African Americans in its admission practice.
Harvard says his application policy is in accordance with US law, and that the institution is working to increase financial assistance to ensure economic as well as racial diversity in its classes.
Changing the Obama era guidelines would be the last step the Trump administration has to change higher education policies. In February 2017, the Department of Justice withdrew two policy papers regarding college compliance with Title IX, the Sex Discrimination Act.
Waiver of the guidelines can add a new breath to the discussion on equal opportunities policy, which the Supreme Court has considered constitutional for decades if they involve certain restrictions regarding the importance of race in making decisions about admission and the impact on white students.
The Supreme Court considered this issue for the first time in California Case No. XXUMX v. Bakke, in which it was established that consideration of the equal opportunity policy in colleges may be constitutional if it is one of several factors and not the decisive factor in itself.
