Woman lost four children in a flood in Houston

Four children of dental assistant Mona Zaliver died in floods caused by Hurricane Harvey.

16-year-old Davy, 15-year-old Dominique, 8-year-old Xavier and 6-year-old Daisy drowned with their great grandmother 81-year-old Belia and grandpa 84-year-old Manuel.

“They were happy children, everyone loved them. They were happy to be here with me,” Saldiver told NBC News.

The family was in the van when it hit the pit and began to sink. Uncle Sammy managed to get out through the half-open window of the van. He said that he had heard four children screaming and crying in the van and he could not help them.

“They were cheerful and very social. My son Dominic asked everyone a million questions. I was even going to make him a T-shirt that said “One More Question.” Daisy, she is a princess, always wanted to wear princess dresses. She even wore fancy Christmas dresses in the summer. My daughter Devi wanted to be a veterinarian, so she fed all the cats that lived in the neighborhood,” recalls the grief-stricken mother.

She said that she was touched by the support that was given to her by those who hold the funeral.

“Keep their memory in your hearts. And remember them in your prayers,” the woman said when asked if she had anything to say to those who found themselves in a similar situation.
