The effects of Hurricane Harvey are expected to lead to higher gasoline prices. But there are several tricks by which drivers will be able to reduce fuel costs.

Gasoline prices have already begun to rise when Hurricane Harvey came ashore Texas. Before everyone started talking about the storm, fuel prices began to rise. AAA predicts that as Labor Day approaches, drivers will face "some of the highest fuel prices this year."

How Harvey Hurricane Can Affect Fuel Cost

According to the Associated Press, on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, which runs from Corpus Christi, Texas, to the city of Lake Charles in the western part of Louisiana, one third of the country's refining capacity is located. Several oil refineries, which were on the way of Harvey, closed before the hurricane hit the shore.

The biggest threat to these refineries is not wind, but flood and power outages.
Andy Lipou, president of the consulting company Lipow Oil Associates, said on Saturday, 26 August, that "the rise in gasoline prices depends on how much rain falls in Houston over the next three days."

Tom Clause, an analyst at the Securities Information Service of Petroleum, expects gas prices to rise by 5-15 cents if refineries do not suffer. Otherwise, prices may rise as much as 25 cents.

According to AAA, since the beginning of Monday, the average retail price for gasoline in the country was about $ 2,37, from $ 2,33 a week ago.
The National Meteorological Service warns that Harvey will be above the Gulf all Tuesday, before re-coming ashore near the Texas-Louisiana border, most likely Wednesday, August 30.
