Ukrainian presidential candidate Vladimir Zelensky did not come to the debate with the current president and candidate Petro Poroshenko at the Olympic Stadium in Kyiv, writes Currently,.

“Pre-election debates are a key element of democracy, freedom of speech, the realization of the right of every Ukrainian citizen to know the truth, the position of every presidential candidate, which will determine the future of our state, our people, every Ukrainian citizen. I would like to remind you that it was not me who proposed the place,” the president emphasized.
Zelensky's headquarters had previously stated that he would not come to the debate with Poroshenko on April 14, insisting that the debate should take place on April 19.

In turn, the speaker of Poroshenko’s election headquarters, Oleg Medvedev, told Channel 5 that the candidate is ready to come to the debate with Zelensky and the date he proposed is April 19. The condition for organizing such debates is that they do not coincide in time with the official time of the debates on the air of the Public Broadcaster.
“If this is a debate, and a debate at a time that does not contradict the law, then we could consider how to go there. But since they are scheduled for the time when Poroshenko, by law, must be on Public TV, as a law-abiding citizen, Poroshenko will go on public TV,” he said, recalling that “the law states that on the 19th there should be a debate on Public TV.” .
