Authorities officially voiced the names of the victims: 6-year-old Stephen Romero and 13-year-old Kayla Salazar from San Jose, California, and 25-year-old Trevor Irby from Romulus, NY, writes BuzzFeed.

Last month, Stephen Romero celebrated his sixth birthday in Legoland, says his father Alberto Romero.

“My son had his whole life ahead of him, he was only 6. That’s all I can say,” the man shared.

The boy was at the festival with his mother and grandmother - both of them also received bullets, but their wounds were not life-threatening.

The second grandmother of the child, Maribel Romero, said that her grandson was "a loving boy, always kind, happy and cheerful."

“A really sick person could have done this,” the grandmother said of the shooter. - Shoot a child... After all, this is a family event. I just hope there is justice, I want justice for my grandson.”

Speaking outside the hospital on Sunday evening, Alberto Romero said: "The only thing I hope is that they catch the shooters." Gilroy Police Chief Scot Smithee said one shooter was killed and the other - if there was an accomplice - may remain at large.

Funeral plans have not yet been made - the family is experiencing a tragedy.

“I lost my son,” Romero said. “I can do nothing until I have secured his resting place, wherever that may be.” I don’t know what else to say.”

The aunt of the deceased Kayla Salazar said that on August 4 her niece would have turned 14, and she had to go to the ninth grade.

“We want Kayla to be remembered as a wonderful person,” said Aunt Katiuska Pimentel Vargas. “She cared about other people.” She loved animals. She had big dreams and aspirations and her life was cut short.”

According to aunts, Kayla loved to draw and wanted to become an animator. She was the eldest of three sisters and spent her entire life in the Bay Area.

“She was a caring, friendly child who really enjoyed helping people,” Pimentel said.

She added that it is difficult for the family to realize what happened, because “they are not able to comprehend such a level of cruelty”.

“We need some change to make sure that this doesn't happen to another child, that there isn't another Kayla, there isn't another family that has to go through this,” Pimentel said. “I don’t wish this on anyone.” This is a truly painful situation."

25-year-old Trevor Irby was a biologist who graduated from Keuk College in Keuk Park, New York in 2017. About him told the president of the college Amy Storey.

Irby was at the festival with his girlfriend, who was not injured in the shooting.

“Our hearts go out to Trevor’s family and loved ones,” Storey said. “We are shocked that this senseless violence has led to the loss of one of our recent graduates, in whom we have high hopes for their potential to create a bright future.”

Friends said that in high school, Irbi played football, baseball and basketball and left indelible impressions of his classmates.

25-year-old man recently moved to Santa Cruz, California, with his girlfriend and worked as a doctor in a nursing home. It is reported that next year the couple was planning to return to Rochester, New York.

“He was a truly wonderful friend,” said former classmate Paige McDonald, who has known Irby since third grade.
