An XNUMX-year-old girl dies after being detained at the US border
An eight-year-old girl died in US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) custody after a medical emergency. Writes about it with the BBC.
According to CBP, the girl and her family were detained at the border patrol station in Harlingen, Texas, and soon became ill. The agency said she was taken to a local hospital, where the child was pronounced dead on May 17.
The agency said it would investigate the incident and the Department of Homeland Security has been notified.

The Consul of Honduras in the border town of McAllen (Texas), Jose Leonardo Navas, identified the girl as a native of Panama, Anadit Tanay Reyes Alvarez.
Navas reported that she was traveling to the US with her Honduran parents and two older siblings. The girl was born with heart problems. Her father told the consul that her daughter had been operated on in Panama three years ago.
Her death appears to be the first death in U.S. Border Protection custody in several years.
This is the second death of a Latin American child under the care of the US government.

Last week, a 17-year-old Honduran who arrived in the US unaccompanied, died in a public shelter in Florida.
The government did not provide any information about the girl's emergency medical treatment or other circumstances of her death.
