US authorities will require information on social networks from migrants
The Trump administration is planning to ask migrants who want to stay in the United States about 5 summer history on social networks, writes CNN.
This step is applied by the administration within the framework of the policy of "reinforcing verification" of potential migrants in the United States. It was decided to strengthen the verification after the terrorist attack in San Bernardino, California in December 2015, when at least 14 people were killed.
Social media testing is expected to affect 15 million potential migrants to the United States. Applicants for permanent legal residence are subject to verification. Exceptions apply only to applicants for diplomatic and official visas.
The federal authorities say that the new rules are necessary to respect national security.
In addition to the 5 history, the authorities will request old phone numbers, email addresses, information about previous violations of the law, or any information about the involvement of family members in terrorist activities.
Critics of the initiative believe that the new rules violate the law on the protection of privacy, and may also slow down and complicate the process of legal migration to the United States.
